Sayville Celebrates Wellness

“If you build it, they will come.”

And so the Wellness Center, which officially celebrated its opening at Sayville High School on a Sunday morning in May, will begin properly educating more students and community members about the benefits of fitness and the dangers of a sedentary life.

On that cloudy Sunday of the Wellness Celebration, sponsored by Unitedhealthcare and Sayville Schools, there was something for everyone. It began with an early morning Triathlon for 5th through 12th graders (see results below). During the mid morning, a Fun Run for under-aged enthusiasts had spectators cheering, and this was followed by the 5K Run/Walk for registered participants wearing the commemorative Wellness Celebration T-shirt.

Helping to inform visitors and participants about a variety of wellness topics, table vendors showcased samples and informational materials that kept everyone in a wellness state of mind.

The morning activities ended with awards for the Triathlon winners and a Ribbon-Cutting ceremony for the Wellness Center.

While many Sayville High School students have already been enjoying the opportunity to train for a lifetime of fitness—which is an outcome of the New York State Standards that emphasize personal health and fitness—the District will be planning in the near future an adult education program that will allow Sayville community members to use the Center as well.

Special thanks to United Healthcare for their generous sponsorship and all the T-Shirt sponsors who help contribute to the Wellness Center Grand Opening.
