Moving Musical Tributes
Lincoln Avenue Choral Concert
Remembers Our Armed Forces
In anticipation of Memorial Day, the Lincoln Avenue Choral, conducted by Mrs. Christine Cirillo, prepared patriotic music for the Spring Concert and invited members of the armed forces to take center state during their performance. Accepting the invitation were members of the Smith-Weaver American Legion Post 651, Sayville, who represented each branch of the armed forces.
During the special performance that was held at the Middle School, songs from each branch such as “The US Marine Corps Hymn,” “Those Caissons Go Rolling,” “Into the Wild Blue Yonder,” were sung by the entire ensemble, while the corresponding flags were paraded across the stage. As the music generated memories of the extreme service and sacrifice made by our military personnel, the history of the poppy was also shared. During the grand finale, “America,” the swell of emotions brought a corresponding swell of tears, pride, and patriotism. The service men and women were just as moved as the audience.
At concert’s end, the Vets issued poppies as the audience departed the auditorium.
