Banner ART Achievement

  • “Banner” ART Achievement

    for Sayville Sophomore

Islip Town Supervisor Phil Nolan visited Sayville High School especially to congratulate Kiki, a Sayville sophomore, whose flag design was chosen to represent New York State in the National Youth Art Month celebration, sponsored by the Council for Art Education.

Along with Supervisor Nolan, Sayville High School Art Department Chairperson Julia Lang Shapiro and Assistant Principal Michael Baio were among the staff who also applauded Kiki’s extraordinary achievement. Incorporating this year’s theme:  “Art Shapes Your World,” Kiki created a New York City landscape silhouette with a 3-D effect that impressed the judges.

Kiki’s winning New York State Design flag will be displayed in Washington DC alongside other state winners during Youth Art Month in March.  Following this exhibit, Kiki’s flag will also be displayed at the National Art Education Association Youth Art Month Museum at the NAEA Annual Convention in Seattle, Washington.

Youth Art Month is an annual observance each March to emphasize the value of Art education for all children.  Youth Art Month has been celebrated since 1961, and the flag design competition is in its 25th year!
