Here’s the Pitch:
Sayville Senior Brendan Butler
Winds Up With Fairleigh Dickinson
Arm Speed Earns Number-One Recruit Status
Registering on the radar gun with an official throw of 89 mph, Sayville High School Senior and Varsity Ace pitcher Brendan Butler turned many recruiters’ heads at a recent college showcase. Consequently, during early-signing week, Brendan chose to sign on the dotted line with Fairleigh Dickinson University to play Division I baseball; an offer that included a scholarship incentive which couldn’t be beat.
Turning heads is not a new phenomenon for Brendan. Through hard work and dedication, he has earned his great reputation every step of the way, and last year it all paid off. Beginning a particularly good stretch of outstanding accomplishments, Brendan received All-League honors and our team's Pitcher of the Year Award as a High School Junior. He played for an elite summer travel baseball team, the Long Island Titans, and did very well. His impressive throwing speed, which recently attracted the attention of numerous college coaches, yielded several enticing offers for a young man with a bright future in baseball.
After careful consideration of all offers, Brendan made a verbal commitment to FDU, and signed early.
“I feel that it's a great fit for Brendan,” stated Sayville Golden Flashes Baseball Coach Ryan Cox, “and FDU Head Coach Gary Puccio is thrilled to have ‘their number one recruit this year.’ What a true testament to Brendan and his family. I am extremely proud of him and his accomplishments and know that he will be a tremendous asset both athletically and academically to FDU and its baseball program.”
