Sayville Senior Named Siemens Competition Semifinalist
Sayville High School Senior named
Siemens Competition Semi-Finalist
Congratulations to Sayville High School Senior Neha Kinariwalla who was named a Siemens Competition Semifinalist for her research at Stony Brook University (Garcia Program).
The title of her project is Dental Pulp Stem Cell (DPSC) Growth and Differentiation on Different Polystyrene, Polybutadiene, Poly (4-vinylpyradine) Copolymer Substrates.
Translated into laymen’s terms by her Sayville Science Research teacher, Maria Brown, “Neha has been investigating polymers and coplymers as media that allow adult dental-pulp stem cells to differentiate into bone-like cells. These results could mean that in the future bone grafts would no longer be necessary because bone cells could instead be inserted into the patient where the cells will grow in vivo (in the patient) once inserted! Amazing!”
