For Second Consecutive Year - Sayville receives School of Distinction from Section XI

  • For a second consecutive year, Sayville School District and its Athletic program have earned the prestigious Scholar-Athlete New York State School of Distinction Award from Section XI for having all 26 varsity teams rank as NYSPHSAA Scholar-Athlete Teams.

This is explained in a statement from Section XI:

"This award is generally presented to member schools that have received scholar-athlete recognition (90 or above average) for team members in each varsity sport during the 2009-10 school year.  NYSPHSAA Assistant Director Robert Stulmaker announced that there were nineteen Scholar-Athlete School of Distinction winners in New York State during the 2009-10 school year, five of which were in Section XI."

While Hollow Hills (East and West) and Smithtown (East and West) high schools along with Sayville earned this designation this year, the Sayville School District is only one in the county to have earned it for two years in a row.

At a brief awards ceremony held at the Section XI offices on October 13th, the New York Section XI representative from Albany, Assistant Director Robert Stulmaker, congratulated Sayville for earning the award.
