    SEEN IN SAYVILLE

Painting Sayville town in Halloween colors, Sayville Middle School and High School art students and their teachers came out on a lovely fall day to adorn the storefronts with imaginative pictures of great pumpkins, Snoopy, Harry Potter, various ghouls, whimsical witches, and assorted candy corns.

This long-standing tradition, established more than 30 years ago, is a wonderful collaboration between the art students in Sayville School District and the Kiwanis Club. Every year prior to Halloween, Sayville Kiwanis Club members visit the local Sayville shops to solicit participation in the activity. Once the stores have agreed to have their windows painted, the Kiwanis Club provides the list and generously donates the art supplies to the Sayville School District Art Department.

With generations of students trying their hands at window painting, it is no surprise that some Sayville storeowners recall painting windows when they were students. While the trick of keeping this program going is in the constant support of the Kiwanis, the community of Sayville shopowners, and Sayville Schools, it is a real treat for the Sayville Community, who can simply stroll through town and enjoy the fanciful art while shopping.
