Sayville High School Anchor Club

  • Winner of the Anchor Club of the Year in the Northeast Potomac Division, the Sayville High School Anchor Club, is the largest student-run organization in the school. With just under 150 members, the club strives to reach out and help those in need in our community and beyond.

The primary focus of all Anchor Clubs nationwide is service to those with brain related injuries or illnesses.  With this in mind, the Sayville Anchors have contributed time and energy to help the cause in many different ways.  One way has been through “My Night Out.”  Anchors volunteered their time to babysit children in the community.  All money raised was given to the “Caring for Cameron Fund.”  Cameron is a local boy who was being treated for brain cancer.  In addition, the Anchor Club has also made monetary and material donations to a local homeless shelter, whose residents are recovering from addictions to drugs and/or alcohol.

The members of the Anchor Club also volunteer for numerous service projects and activities, which have included the Jones Beach Breast Cancer Walk, Salvation Army Kettle Effort, Juvenile Diabetes Walk,  Sunrise Drive’s Halloween Haunted Hallway, and a Food Drive benefiting the Sayville Food Pantry.  This fall the Anchors also participated in “Operation Ziplock”, donating supplies to our troops in Afghanistan.

Anchor Clubs have over 10,000 members nationwide and are sponsored by their local Pilot Clubs. The Sayville Anchor Club holds meetings twice per month. For more information about Anchor and Pilot activities, log onto www.pilotinternational.org.
