Reading For the Record

  • Synchronized for a specific day with millions of other readers, Sunrise Drive students participated in Jumpstart’s Annual Read for the Record 2009 Campaign, sponsored by the Person Foundation. “To give every child an equal chance to succeed,” the Read For the Record campaign raises awareness about the importance of reading with young children. It also raises funds in support of “Jumpstart’s year-round work with preschool children in low-income communities across the United States.”

Reading the beloved classic The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle, the Sunrise Drive Fourth-gradeclasses of Mrs. Order, Mr. Frank, Mrs. Donnelly, and Mrs. Norman helped set a new reading record by reading to the Kindergarten and First-grade classes of Mrs. Nocito, Mrs. Jones, Miss Baio, and Mrs. Baron. During the one-day reading session, the fourth graders reviewed important reading strategies with their younger classmates, who in turn thought the older students were awesome.
