History Club Hosts Luncheon for Veterans

  • History Club Hosts Holiday Luncheon

    for Local Veterans

The act of listening, a most invaluable gift, was given generously by the Sayville High School History Club members at a recent Holiday Luncheon for Veterans at the VFW Hall Post 433 in Sayville.

During the luncheon, thrown by the History Club members, Veterans from the Northport VA hospital as well as Stony Brook had a lively time with good food and USO-like entertainment. While everyone enjoyed the singing and dancing, the students valued the quality time they spent listening to the men and women who shared their stories about military service in various wars, including World War II, Korea, Vietnam, and Iraq. Hearing the veterans talk about the historical happenings from a personal perspective gave the students new insights.

History Club Advisors Mrs. Sue Hart and Mr. Michael Pace were so proud of their students who contributed their weekend time to spread good cheer. ”Their enthusiasm, warm smiles, and genuine interest in these veterans were commendable,” Mrs. Hart remarked. “There is no doubt, both the veterans and our students gained a great deal from one another. Obviously, the true meaning of the holiday season was apparent at this gathering.”
