Hats off to Hats On Day

  • Hats off to Hats On Day

Sayville High School Student Government sponsored a “Hats On Day, organized by treasurer Cynthia Cheng, to raise awareness for children and teens battling with cancer.

Any students who wished to participate wore a hat of their own choosing on the special day, made a cash donation—not to exceed a dollar—during the lunch periods, and received stickers acknowledging their contributions. The variety of hats seen throughout the school was a visible reminder of good will hard at work. Wearing hats helped the Sayville students more closely associate with cancer patients who, when they loose their hair during treatment, often wear hats or scarves to protect their heads.

The Student Government raised $500 and contributed it to the Foundation for Children Fighting Cancer that serves to make the daily lives of young cancer patients more comfortable.

Student Government Advisor Mr. Mike Huggins especially commended Cynthia for her exceptionally hard work at organizing this event. “Each individual student Government officer selects an event to sponsor,” explained Mr. Huggins, “which benefits the student body or the community. Cynthia has been one of the best treasurers Student Government has had! She is one of the hardest workers I have ever seen!”

Hats off to Cynthia and the generous support of the Sayville High School student body! Their efforts will make a difference in the lives of children fighting cancer.
