Amazing Girls Golfers

  • Three Sayville Girls Golfers

     

     

    Three is the magic number for Sayville's unbelievable Girls Golf team. Three team members have been offered Division I athletic scholarships as well as academic scholarships from Sacred Heart, Hofstra, Harvard, Princeton, Rutgers, Middlebury or Williams College.

     

    The trio of players have left an indelible mark on their school, community and team respectively.  

    Jenn Clinton is ranked 14th in a class of 294 students with a 102.1 academic average.  She was the Suffolk County runner up in 2009 and fourth place finisher in the NYS Girls’ Golf Championship in 2009.  She is a fearless player and an exquisite ball striker who possesses limitless potential in the game.  Jenn is also a haltingly talented artist whose art work adorns the hallways of Sayville High School .  Jenn has accepted an academic and athletic scholarship to Division I Sacred Heart University in Fairfield Connecticut where she will be a member of their Honors College and golf team respectively.

     

    Cynthia Cheng is ranked 5th in a class of 294 students with a 104.3 academic average. Cynthia took 8th place in the New York State Girl’s Golf Championship in 2008.  Remarkable for her mental discipline, fluid athleticism and steely nerve, Cynthia is one of the most formidable competitors in the area.  A humble leader, Cynthia holds many elected school service leadership roles and is an accomplished pianist.  She has accepted an academic and athletic scholarship to Division I Hofstra University, where she will be a member of their Honors College and golf team respectively.    

     

    Julie MacDonell is ranked 2nd in a class of 294 students with a 106 academic average.  Julie took 12th place in the New York State Girl’s Golf Championship in 2009.  Julies’ talent in school, sport and music are rivaled only by her deep and sincere humility.  An All-State trumpet player who has balanced extraordinary demands with élan, Julie is a disciplined and powerful player who has distinguished herself as a player with whom to be reckoned.  Julie was offered an academic and athletic scholarship to Division I Rutgers’s University.  She is however more likely to attend Princeton, Harvard, Middlebury or Williams College respectively, as she has been accepted to all and will bring her sticks wherever she goes.

     

     The triumvirate of: Jenn Clinton, Cynthia Cheng and Julie MacDonell have set a standard of excellence in school, the arts and the golf links that should inspire generations of young people who hear the call to actualize their potential.  These young women heard the call and responded with unwavering commitment to do and be their very best; no excuses.
