Witnessing A Big Win for BNL Science Competition

  • Witnessing for Science

    wins big at bnl

Congratulations to Jenny P., a Fifth grader at Cherry Avenue, who won First Place at the Brookhaven National Laboratory Science Fair recently.

For her research project, entitled “Police Line—Do Not Cross,” Jenny made a video of a “crime” as it was taking place and then asked her sample population of witnesses to describe what details they remembered about the crime (i.e. hair color, type of car).  Her scientific study was to determine if children or adults make better witnesses.

Jenny tested three different age groups: 8 to 10 year olds, 11 to 30 year olds, and 40+ and found that 11 to 30 year olds made the best witnesses because they remembered more details than the other two groups.

It was no crime that Jenny brought the 2010 BNL banner home with her for display in the front hallway at Cherry Avenue.
