    Commended Students

Four Sayville High School Seniors have been named Commended Students in the 2009 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Congratulations to Karl W. Hart, Jeremy L. Pomerantz, Samantha N. Rosa, and Garrett T. Stephen who are among the 34,000 Commended Students nationwide being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Of the 1.5 million students who entered the 2009 competition by first taking the 2007 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), “Commended” students are those who ranked in the top five percent.

“Recognition of academically talented students and the key role played by schools in their development is essential to the pursuit of educational excellence in our nation,” a NMSC spokesperson has stated.  “The young people named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding academic potential by using their strong performance in this highly competitive program. We hope this recognition will enhance their educational opportunities and that they will continue to pursue their professional goals. ”

While they will not continue further in the 2009 Competition for the National Merit Scholarships, Principal Joseph Buderman will present to these students Letters of Commendation from both Sayville high school and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
