Placing First at Pumpkin Fling

  • PLACING FIRST

    AT PUMPKIN FLING

Young engineers from Sayville Middle School competed in the Annual Pumpkin Fling at Cornell Cooperative Extension’s Suffolk County Farm and pulled First Place

in the “12 and Under Youth Category” for the farthest pumpkin launch at 148 feet!  (One high school group had a shot over 692 feet!)

Contest participants of all ages and groups designed, constructed, and competed by propelling pumpkins into a field with a working catapult. Contestants were judged on distance, accuracy, and most innovative/creative design.

While it was an exciting time for all the students, there was also an especially proud moment when the Sayville Team scored big by winning the Audience’s Favorite Award as well.

In addition to the trophies, the winning teams each received a pumpkin pie to share. Congratulations to the students and Pumpkin Fling coaches, Sayville Technology teachers Jeff Goodman and Sam Kruse, for taking Sayville’s young engineers so far!
