    Sayville Team Topped the Competition

    Can They Do It Again?

Over the winter recess, the News 12 broadcast of the Challenge competition between Sayville and West Babylon high schools was an exciting event. Although Sayville never flinched, the close competition gave audiences a few nail-biting minutes before Sayville pulled ahead with the final score of 220 to 200. (The Sayville team returns for another Challenge against Sachem North on February 29. The Challenge airs every Saturday and Sunday at 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. through June of 2008 on News 12 Long Island.)

The academic TV quiz show for high school students offers a weekly battle of the brains among Long Island’s “best and brightest.” Not only do students have to be well-rounded in their knowledge of the arts, history, literature, math, and science, they have to have the quickest wits to give the proper response within seconds—sometimes milliseconds!

According to the Challenge website, “After 31 weeks of competition, one school in each region is crowned champion, winning $2,500 dollars for their school. The final winning teams from each region go on to The Challenge Championship where they square off with one another in a tri-state showdown. The school crowned The Challenge Champion will receive $10,000 in prize money. Each student participating in the final Challenge Championship game will receive $500.”
