Dining with the
Sayville Alumna (Class of 2009) Jasmine De Pompeo was among the choice few selected by the Commandant, out of 4,400 midshipmen, to meet and greet First Lady Michelle Obama, along with the Secretary of the Navy the Honorable Ray Mabus, during lunch at King Hall at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland in April.
Mrs.Obama had joined Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley in Annapolis to show support for the Veterans Full Employment Act of 2013 bill which supports military veterans in licensing, training, education and employment. After a tour of the U.S. Naval Academy campus and academic buildings, the First Lady spoke to the 4,4000 midshipmen about how husband, President Obama, and she were working on their behalf, in appreciation for their sacrifice and service for our country.
As one of ten midshipmen to sit with the FLOTUS and the First Lady, Jasmine engaged conversations about lacrosse with Mrs. Obama who shared Sasha’s interest in playing.
Jasmine, a political science major with an emphasis in U.S. law and Latin studies; was recently inducted into the PS honor society, has been on the Dean's and Commandants Lists several times. Her service selection after Commissioning will be intelligence and she will be an ensign in the US Navy. Among some of her athletic accomplishments Jasmine has garneredher third consecutive Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year and was the MVP of the Pat League championships, when NWL four-peated as Pat League champs!!
