District Gold Card Holders Are Treated to Superb Theatre and Delicious Dinner At An Annual Event
Student Government Volunteers Serve Dinner
More than a hundred lucky Sayville Senior Citizens with District Gold Cards were in for a treat when they accepted the invitation to attend the 82nd Annual Sayville High School musical at a special matinee followed by an exclusive dinner just for them.
This year, the ninth Annual District Gold Card Dinner reversed the order of the previous eight; so before the dinner, the District Gold Card holders were entertained by dazzling musical numbers, tap-dancing rhythms, and light-hearted comedy in the lively Anything Goes, a popular Broadway production of Cole Porter hits, which was superbly performed by the Broadway-caliber Brook Street Players of Sayville High School.
After the splendid show, and thanks to the generosity of both the Sayville High School and Middle School student governments organized by High School Student Government Advisor Katherine Van Dorn, Sayville Senior Citizens sat down to a delicious dinner provided by Parkville Deli. Board of Education trustee Norm deVenau greeted the guests and guided them into the beautifully decorated cafeteria. Mouthwatering meatloaf and succulent chicken, along with mashed potatoes, string beans, rolls, and tossed salad were served up by attentive and respectful Sayville High School students dressed in formal black and white. Lending Katherine Van Dorn a helping hand at the steam table were Sayville Superintendent Dr. John Stimmel, High School Assistant Principal Jillian Makris, and High School Senior Office Assistant Jean Trunz. The dessert of cake, cookies, and hot beverage was a sweet way to end the exceptional evening. Providing dinner-music ambiance on the piano was Sayville graduate and very talented musician Anthony Vetere.
Mrs. Van Dorn remarked that her student volunteers “Not only did … a great job preparing, serving and cleaning up, I feel their energy and effort significantly contributed to the success of the night.”
Special thanks go to Student Servers: Devin Castell, Ava Eriksen, Allie Coia, Harrison Bench, Emily Steffens, Sam Jost, Brady Dolan, Briana Davis, Sara Holmes, Terina Imperato, Jileen Barrett, Bettina Bonfiglio, Daniela Cortez, Diana McNally, Grace Aversano, Jack Davis, Lainee Buck, Jordan Ramsaywak "Not all are in the photo," Van Dorn stated, as some arrived late and others left early--they have very busy schedules! :)"
