Sayville Athletes Participate in Special Olympics
With enthusiasm and joyful exuberance Sayville Special Olympians Logan Hillery, Kaitlyn Finley, Jacob Feldman, Ashley Daigle, and Julianna Sagginario competed in the Long Island Region Special Olympics held on Saturday, May 11th at Bethpage High School. Although the Special Olympics have been around for decades, this was the eighth time that Sayville has participated in the Long Island regional competition, contributing to this year's record-setting enrollment—with more than 400 strong. Cheered by family, friends and many member of Sayville’s Athletes Helping Others (AHO) organization, the participants showcased their abilities in the track-and-field events.
AHO Advisor Suzanne Hoss had high praise for the athletes: “All brought home medals…Sayville also had three unified teams that participated in the relay race with both special education and regular education athletes. Special thanks to coaches Joann Korb, Sally Pelligrini, Suzanne Cannini, and Lori Elia who trained our athletes daily in preparation for this fabulous day. And thank you to all of the Athletes Helping Others members who came to support us.”
