Following the map through the West Sayville and Sayville neighborhoods, the Cherry Avenue Elementary School staff had their turn with a car parade. Cherry Avenue teachers along with Principal Dr. Lisa Ihne and Superintendent (former Cherry Principal) Dr. Stimmel, honked horns and shouted hellos as their cars drove by.

Principal Dr. Ihne expressed in an email sent to Cherry families that included a map, “Special thanks to Ms. Enea and her husband, Ms. McKinnon, Ms. Duffy, and Ms. McDermott for creating the map. It was a difficult task, and they dedicated their time to this project ensuring that we visit as many blocks as possible.   Please know if we left off any streets where you reside, it was not intentional.” Dr. Ihne suggested that those who might not otherwise be able to view the parade from their homes, “pick a location on the map and either remain in your car or stand in an isolated spot away from others.” Ms. Enea and her husband led the parade, "so we can easily follow the route…”

The students and families who came out to cheer their teachers on the cloudy day brought heartwarming sunshine in their broad smiles.

"It was so wonderful seeing our Cherry families on our Honk-and-Wave parade route today," said members of Cherry Avenue staff after the Parade.

Many thanks to all the parents for sharing their photos and comments.
