Last year, Sayville School District launched Family Connect Night as an opportunity for families to make some room in their busy weekday schedules to participate in enjoyable activities together, playing games, prepping and enjoying meals together, watching movies or going on strolls. It was a concept implemented by Director of Student Services Jillian Makris to address the social and emotional wellness of students and their families in a hectic world. “We would love to share what our families are doing around the community,” Mrs. Makris had added, suggesting families share the photos of activities for posting on the District’s website.

With the new stressors of COVID-19 shaking our world, this opportunity to share quality, stress-relieving time together is even more important.  Recently, at Lincoln Avenue Elementary School, the PTA sponsored Zoom BINGO for the first Family Connect Night of this new school year. “Prizes were delivered to students homes by our PTA board,” said Lincoln Principal Christine Carlson. “There were over thirty families that participated!”
