Sayville Middle School’s Annual Veterans Day Tribute: A Virtual Presentation

  • November 11, 2020

The Sayville Middle School has traditionally held a moving tribute for local Veterans as part of their annual commemorative Veterans Day celebration. In years past, invited guests had been welcomed with a special breakfast, treated to a musical fanfare of military themes played by the Middle School Band, and escorted to the auditorium for a presentation “Worthy of Their Service.”

    Not this year.

However, social-distancing limitations did not stop the determination of the Middle School music teachers, especially Band Instructor Mrs. Kimberly Lattanzo, from preparing the annual tribute. “The Eighth-grade band along with Mr. Joseph Albanese and I have been working on a tribute video for all the Veterans.” Mrs. Lattanzo and Mr. Albanese finalized the video and sent it to the Long Island State Veterans Home in Stony Brook with the following statement:

“Veterans Day  is such an important holiday to ALL Americans. Every year, we pay tribute to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom by having a Celebration at Sayville Middle School to honor our Veterans. Although, nothing can replace a live experience, the Sayville Middle School Eighth-Grade Band, under the direction of Mrs. Kim Lattanzio, wanted to share the following video tribute with every Veteran at the Long Island State Veterans Home.

“ In this video you will hear a few heartfelt speeches and see some beautiful artwork from select Sayville Middle School Eighth-Grade Band members.  The entire Eighth-Grade Band will also be performing  marching band arrangements of Stars and Stripes Forever and God Bless America.  This tribute video would not have been possible without the countless hours of help from Sayville Music Department Teacher, Mr. Albanese, in producing this video and helping to make Mrs. Lattanzio’s vision a reality.

“We are forever grateful to each and every Veteran. Thank you again for your service to our country.”
