Class of 2021 Honored with Senior Breakfast Tradition with Some Adaptations

Senior Breakfast
  • Celebrating the Senior Class with a special breakfast has been a yearly tradition. This year will be the thirty-third year since then Senior Class Adviser Mrs. Marie Joost-Cox and former High School Principal Joseph Buderman launched the annual Senior Breakfast.

While current social-distancing restrictions present a challenge, this year the Senior Breakfast has adapted to give the Class of 2021 a new way of celebrating this privilege enjoyed by generations of Sayville graduating seniors.

Senior Class Advisers Ms. Methven and Ms. Perlin along with the Senior Breakfast committee scheduled the breakfast on Superintendent’s Conference day—when students usually do not come to school—so the Seniors could have the building to themselves. They decorated the halls and set up twelve “classroom cafes.” They allowed the Seniors to sign up for a specific classroom cohort with whom they would celebrate breakfast. Each social group was asked to maintain six-feet-apart seating while breakfasts were distributed.

While this did not resemble prior years, it still was a welcomed opportunity for the Class of 2021 to engage in a tradition that will be as unforgettable as it was unique.
