“Three Sayville High School musicians made their debut at Carnegie Hall in New York City on Sunday, May 1,” announced Mrs. Kerri VanBoxel, Sayville High School Band Director.  “Emily Helbock (French Horn), Luke Lundquist (Tuba) and Kate VanBoxel (Clarinet) are members of the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra.  Each week since September, Emily, Luke and Kate have been attending rehearsals in preparation for this once in a lifetime experience.  Carnegie Hall is one of the most famous concert halls in the world and artists from every genre have performed there including George Gershwin, Billie Holliday, Benny Goodman, Judy Garland, and The Beatles.  It is quite an achievement for these young musicians to perform on the same stage as these legendary acts.  Years of hard work and dedication have led to this incredible opportunity.  The music department is very proud of these wonderful students!”
