Sayville Athletics history repeats itself in 2022. Sayville Varsity Football (LI Division III Champs for seven times and Suffolk County Champs for sixteen times) won its FIFTH Rutgers Trophy for their outstanding, undefeated season. Coincidentally, at Homecoming this year, the 1972 Golden Flashes team was recognized for their 50th anniversary as Sayville’s first Rutgers Trophy team.

"The Sayville Community is very proud of our players and coaches," said Sayville Athletic Director Dr. Ryan Cox. "This trophy is a symbol of all the hard work, dedication, preparation, and execution of our players, coaches, and supporters. To receive the Rutgers Cup Trophy this season after honoring the 1972 Rutgers Cup Championship Team on our Homecoming is very special for not only our current players and coaches but all players and coaches that have come before this.Thank you to the Board of Education, Dr. Ferris, and all administration, faculty, staff, parents, students, and community for the support of our football program and all our athletic teams. This has been a Fall to remember!"
