History in the Making

  • History In the Making with Two Sayville Seniors

By winning Third Place this year at the Regional History Day competition recently held at Hofstra University, Sayville Seniors Emily Sneddon and Jared Bergen qualified for the State Competition. “The two students created a website about the history of the AIDS Crisis in New York in the 1980s,” explained their very pleased social studies mentor LynnAnn Perlin.

If Emily and Jared’s forward momentum toward the State competition sounds like history repeating itself, well it is.  Last year Emily and Jared also competed as partners in the website division at Hofstra, took Second Place, and went on to compete at the State level. Their website, the result of great teamwork that researched Robert H. Jackson and his legacy with the Nuremberg trial, won FIRST PLACE for New York State —it was a  history-making FIRST win for  Sayville too—at the State Convention during the National History Day competition.

Emily and Jared will again compete in the State competition, held in mid-April, at Cooperstown, New York.  Congratulations, Emily and Jared, on your continued success and good luck in the State competition.
