Breakfast of Champions Certificates

  • Jamie Baio nominated by Jeff Hoffman

Jillian Brudi and James Baio have been leaders in the music department ever since they arrived at Sayville High School. Their leadership on and off the stage has made them both “the go to people” for the younger students. This summer Jamie and Jillian lent their talents to perform in a stage musical which raised money for a local charity. Their selflessness, talent, generosity, and efforts helped us to raise over $1,500.00 for the charity. I would like to use this recognition to publicly thank them for all of their hard work which produced a professional and profitable event. They are truly champions!

Nicholas DiBene nominated by Jennifer Pagano

One typical day, Nicholas woke up and had no idea that he would change the lives of a family he had never met. Nick’s parents reluctantly agreed to take him surfing at Democrat Point despite the rumored dangers and difficulty of the surf in that area. Nick, having ventured away from the other surfers, noticed four children struggling to stay afloat, yards from the shore. Their father, who was swimming frantically to reach them in time, was having difficulty staying above the relentless waves. Nicholas selflessly and automatically swam as fast as he could towards the struggling children and father. With the youngest of the children safely on top of the board and the remaining children and father clinging to the side, Nick swam with the surf board in tow back to the safety of the shore. These are not only the actions of a champion, but a true HERO!

Noelle Dufrenoy nominated by Cynthia Giannico

When I was asked to nominate a student for the Breakfast of Champions, I immediately thought of Noelle Dufrenoy. Noelle is not only academically at the top of my 100 biology students, Noelle is at the top of having the best of character. She always enters the classroom with a smile on her face and a friendly “Hello.” There is a saying “If you think someone needs a friend then be one.” I have watched Noelle be that friend to several students. She keeps her lab partner on task and always helps with encouraging words. Her patience seems unending. When a fellow student was out sick, it was Noelle who said, “I wish I had her number so that I can see how she is feeling.” When that student returned on crutches, it was Noelle who helped this student to and from the lab tables and then carried the student’s books to her next class. I am so proud to be Noelle’s teacher because she is a CHAMPION.

Ava Herrera nominated by Read Sands

I am nominating Ava Herrera for her amazing work ethic in Physical Education, as well as her initiative starting a brand new yoga club as a freshman.

Lara Beth Hirsch nominated by Ari Kramer

Lara Beth Hirsch is one of my finest violinists…but she is so much more than that. She is a very hardworking, highly-motivated, and determined student. In fact, Lara took upon herself the hardest officer role of the orchestra by being the book-keeper for our group. As we deal with over $5,000.00 yearly, this is a great responsibility. She is very goal oriented and has the admiration of her peers and the entire music faculty. She is not a follower but a leader by example. Once weekly, Lara goes to our middle school to teach violin lessons and play with the middle school’s Select Orchestra, merely to help “push” the district’s string department, proving just how devoted to the Sayville Music Program she truly is. She also has volunteered in the school and community by playing in our Sayville Quartet at various events. In orchestra, she is always well prepared and her natural talents combined with motivation, self-discipline, and leadership abilities allow her to be an exemplary model for the classroom. This Breakfast of Champions program was created for people like Lara.

Cory Levy nominated by Evan Hammer

It is my honor to nominate Cory Levy as my “Champion.” Cory has become an absolute force in the art room. In our three years together he has developed amazing skills, honed his vision, and explored his passion for all to see. Although Cory can often be found deep in thought in his own world, he is quick to step back to reality to help critique another student or ask for suggestions in his own work. He is the epitome of a conscientious, hard-working student.

In his first year in the AP class he did not receive the score he was hoping for, but this has not deterred him. Now in his second year he is bound and determined to improve his score, and he is making every effort to ensure this. His dedication to his artwork is commendable and certainly deserving of this honor!

Andrew Liberato nominated by Alisa Kremer-Parrott

Andrew Liberato is a student in my Global History 9th grade Regents class. Andrew possesses so many wonderful attributes, and displays them on a daily basis. He’s polite, intelligent, conscientious and kind. Whenever we are discussing a new culture, concept or civilization, Andrew is on task, attentive and engaged in his learning. Andrew’s writing reflects his insightfulness, creativity and critical thinking skills. He is thoughtful and cares about his education. Thank you Andrew for being a true role model for others around you. Your humility and dignified presence make you stand out in the crowd, and I can’t wait to see what the next few years brings you!

Brigid Lipari nominated by Suzanne Hoss

Brigid is a young woman who walks through life quietly and gracefully making a huge difference! Brigid is somewhat reserved and would never think to boast or brag about herself. However, she is a talented language student and a caring and compassionate classmate. She is consistently involved in Athletes Helping Others and takes joy in giving back to her community. I am so impressed with her modesty considering her talents. She is a pleasure and an inspiration to teach each day!

Gabriella Martucci nominated by Lisa Gray

Gabby makes me laugh!  How great is it to know that I will be laughing and enjoying myself because of this precious young lady?

Thanks for making my day bright!  You are a super shining star!

Madison May nominated by Melissa Rizzo-Shore

Madison is a fine young woman with great character and leadership skills. As vice-president of the Anchor Club, Madison is often the first to volunteer and never lets me down when she is asked to participate in an Anchor Club activity. Madison has also been my student for the past two years and has proven to be extremely hard-working and responsible. Spanish does not always come easy to Madison but she always puts forth tremendous effort to succeed. I am so proud of what she has accomplished and I feel very fortunate to work with Madison both inside and outside the classroom. Madison May is a true champion and very deserving of this award!

Gabriella Medeck nominated by Suzanne Hoss

Gabrielle et Michèle are two of the most well rounded, kind, hardworking students I have ever come in contact with. Although they are just 9th graders what they have been through personally has caused them to mature early on in life. They have overcome tremendous adversity at a young age and have grown into amazing young women. It is easy to see how they appreciate what they have in life and love one another and others. They are different in many ways yet both possess outstanding qualities. I am blessed to teach them each day.

Dodley Noel nominated by Jennifer Wittman-Cahill

Dodley Noel is a senior here at Sayville High School, yet she is also a new student. Dodley grew up and lived in Haiti for 14 years. Afterward, she moved to Brooklyn and then relocated to Tennessee. This year we are truly blessed that Dodley is here with us in Sayville. To properly discuss this young woman would take forever and a day. So, I will choose a select few words that adequately describe Dodley Noel: compassionate, resilient, joyous, enlightening, loyal, intelligent and simply fantastic.

I am fortunate to work closely with Dodley, as she is the historian of the Leadership Club in which I co-advise. All of our interactions are unique simply because of Dodley and her presence. She enriches the lives of all she meets by offering genuine warmth, an open heart, a willing soul and her priceless smile. Dodley is that student-the one we all wish to have and then are terribly saddened to lose. I am certain that I will continue to be awed by Dodley this school year and of course, I will be sad to see her leave upon graduation in June.

John Wooden said “Things turn out the best for the people who make the best of the way things turn out.” Dodley, you live this quote in your daily life! You have a fire in your heart that is unmatched by many. Wherever that fire leads you, I am certain you will keep it always burning. I am honored to know you-you are that student. Congratulations Dodley – you are a true champion!

Jaclyn Parcelluzzi nominated by Timothy Dillon

Jaclyn Parcelluzzi is an inspiration. For the past four school years; Jacqueline has quietly and humbly distinguished herself as one of the hardest working young people that I’ve encountered in my career. She faces challenges with courage and leads her daily life with uncommon dignity. Her strength of spirit is arresting and she is one of my heroes!

It is an honor to know and recognize Jaclyn Parcelluzzi!

Emily Perun nominated by Nancy Finnerty

Emily has been a member of the Teen Book Discussion Group for nearly four years. She is always enthusiastic about each title, and contributes to the discussion at every meeting. She helps to make the students in the group more comfortable and confident when expressing themselves. Always a leader and a veracious reader, every student could learn something from Emily!

Brian Reilly nominated by Dawn Thelian

Brian is a diligent student and a wonderful young man. He comes tenth period on a regular basis and his success in Geometry has been because of his sincere efforts. He asks thoughtful and relevant questions and is a true pleasure to work with. Brian is polite and respectful; he leaves my room everyday saying, “Thank you Mrs. Thelian.” …Love him!

Morgan Remhild nominated by Adam Sznitken

I am nominating Morgan because of the type of person she is. Not only has Morgan put in extra time into her school work, but she has been nominated into leadership positions. She has many talents, but one specifically that is not so common anymore; she cares about others. She tries to help other students with their math when we are all doing work as well as caring for them. It is no surprise that she is a sought after babysitter and she will be at the top of the list when I need one.

Destiny Rivera nominated by Angela O'Hoppe

Destiny has shown tremendous strength and kindness throughout high school. She works diligently in and out of the classroom. Destiny is a good friend to those around her and is respected by her peers. Most students I know do not have as many responsibilities as Destiny has, but she carries them out with an ever-present smile!

Gabriela Sartoretti nominated by Adam Sznitken

I am nominating Gabriela because of the type of person she is. Gabi, and maybe without knowing it, is a positive influence on her peers. You don’t see many teenagers who can be looked up to by their peers, but Gabi is that kid. Gabi is willing to help her fellow classmates with schoolwork or with a conversation. She is a calming influence in the classroom and during extra help periods. I also wanted to point out how good she is with kids, including my own when my wife brought my boys up to school.

Adonis Ventura nominated by LynnAnn Perlin

In ten years, I have never met a student who has shown all of us how a second chance can change your life. In the past, Adonis was a struggling student, but this year he has demonstrated maturity, growth and determination.

Jack Wissing nominated by Colleen Backer

Jack was nominated because he has made exceptional progress towards his goals. School work has not always been Jack’s favorite pastime! This year, his effort and determination are truly commendable. Jack is excelling in all of his courses while keeping up with the Trade Electric Program at BOCES. Jack is deserving of this accolade due to the manner in which he carries himself in our school and community. Jack is kind and compassionate, qualities that will ensure a very bright future.

    Daria Zeman by Maria Brown

Daria is the student that brightens my day! She always has a smile on her face and never misses a beat to ask me how my day is going! Daria has been in the RISE Program since she was a freshman. As a budding environmentalist, her interests have always been similar to mine and she takes on unique and interesting projects each year. Daria always challenges herself to learn more and figure out how her research can help improve the quality of life for all. She is always thinking about the larger picture and what her role will be in it! Her humbleness and incredibly warm and sincere personality place her at the top of my list of students I have really enjoyed working with. She will go off to college next year and then…change the world for the better as she is defined by her values, her character and her intelligence…can’t wait to see what she does next!!!
