Sayville Accepts ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

Fortunately it was a sweltering, hot day on September 5, 2014 when Sayville School District accepted the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge from Bayport-Blue Point Superintendent of Schools Dr. Vincent Butera, Administrators, and Board of Education.

As the ice buckets were prepared by eager High School students, Sayville School District Superintendent Dr. Walter Schartner (5th seat from left in photo) expressed his willingness on behalf of the Sayville school community to participate in this worthy cause.

Dr. Schartner was not alone in bringing awareness to ALS. Supported by his fellow Sayville Administrators and Board of Education members (see below), everyone proved a good sport and took the cold shock of freezing water in good fun. In addition, Dr. Schartner nominated Islip Schools Superintendent Susan A. Schnebel, along with her Administrators and Board of Education to further the awareness movement.

From the ALS website: The ALS Association is incredibly grateful for the outpouring of support from those people who have been doused, made a donation, or both. Contributions further The Association’s mission to find a cure for ALS while funding the highest quality of care for people living with the disease.
