Tribute to a Sayville Legacy

  • TRIBUTE TO AN ATHLETIC LEGACY

Lifelong community member, Sayville HS alumni, Class of 1966 and Athletic Hall of Fame inductee, Harold Leslie passed away last year.

Harold was a three-sport athlete at Sayville HS, excelling in football, basketball and baseball.  He was a volunteer coach, working mainly with football and baseball for over 50 years.  He worked with all levels, from Little League through Varsity and has touched the lives of countless athletes, many who still live in the Sayville community.

As a tribute to his legacy in Sayville and to honor the accomplishments and service that Harold provided for our Sayville community, the Sayville baseball program retired his jersey #29 in a brief ceremony.

On Monday, April 27th, while his jersey number was displayed on the outfield fence of the Sayville High School baseball field, the Coach Ryan Cox and the entire Sayville baseball program participated in a touching jersey-retiring ceremony with Coach Leslie's daughter, her family, and his grandchildren.  Sayville Sophomore, Sean Barry graciously played the bagpipes.
