A Shout Out for Good Cheering

  • A Shout Out for Good Cheering

Sayville Middle School Cheerleaders deserve a shout out for their own accomplishments in their season of competitions.

During the December 15, 2013 LICCA (Long Island Cheerleading Coaches Association) competition in Bay Shore High School, Sayville competed for its first time as a brand new team and placed 2nd out of 8 teams. On January 11, 2014 at the LICCA competition held at Rocky Point high school, the girls placed 1st out of 11 teams. On January 18th at the LICCA competition held at Mac Arthur high school, the Middle School team, with focus and renewed determination, came back from an injury earlier that week to place 2nd out of 10 teams.

A newcomer to Sayville, Coach Lisa Genoino has brought a total of ten years of experience as a cheerleader coach (seven of those years coaching school teams like Sachem and Connetquot) to the Sayville Middle School Cheerleading squad this year.  She also currently works for Long Island Cheer, doing her passion: “cheering my heart out!” With safety as number one on her agenda, Genoino has found talent, determination, a willingness to cooperate, and heart in the Sayville Squad.

“I have two captains,” Coach Genoino said. “Alicia Rivera and Kayla O'Brien, who are always on time and ready to go, such wonderful team players. They want what's best for the team—sweethearts.” Genoino  continued. “In all the years I've coached, I admire the Sayville squad’s  love for each other and how they show genuine concern for a teammate who is hurt.”

With a new squad ready to perform and a new Coach ready to lead, Sayville Middle School Cheerleaders have been an inspiration to watch this year. Good job, girls!!!
