Youth Golfer Wins 2014 Masters Trip

  • Sayville Youth Golfer,

Sean Haselton Wins Trip to 2014 Masters

If Sean Haselton were assigned an essay topic for school, "What I Did Last Summer," his answer would be nothing less than masterful.

During the summer of 2013, Sean Haselton was one of three Haselton brothers from Sayville who participated in a free, golf skills competition called Drive, Chip and Putt sponsored by the Masters and PGA of America. The competition was based on a point system where the competitors “get 3 balls for driving, chipping and putting,” Sean’s mother Eileen explained.  “Sean [an eighth-grader in the Sayville Middle School this fall] made it to the regional qualifier and won in his age division (12-13.) Sean was the only New Yorker to win in this region (NY, NJ, PA, CT).  He had also won tickets to the practice round and was recognized at an event for junior golfers and the MET PGA during a Mets game on August 27th.”

From this win Sean will compete in the finals that will be held the Sunday before the Masters in Augusta (April 2014) on the 18th hole!

Coincidentally, while Sean was interviewed at the event and later by Newsday over the phone, the article about his accomplishment appeared in Newsday, on August 15th—Sean’s 13th Birthday! (see link below.)

    Congratulations, Sean!
