    For Sayville 2013 Homecoming

The crisp fall weather in Sayville couldn’t have been more perfect for a Homecoming celebration and the culminating day of High School Spirit Week, held on Saturday, September 28.

Parading westward on Main Street, members of the Sayville Rotary and Sayville Teachers Association, along with the Sayville Varsity, Junior Varsity, and Middle School cheerleaders preceded the four fanciful Homecoming floats that had been designed and constructed with tissue paper and immense creativity by dedicated members of each class during Spirit Week. The accompanying Sayville Fire Department trucks ensured notice with their blaring horns heralding the procession of floats.

Depicting this year’s theme—old video games the Freshman Class portrayed Space Invaders, complete with 2-dimensional aliens: the Sophomores produced Pokemon, including Pikachu and Ash Ketchum; the Juniors packed a wallop with the unforgettable Packman gobbling up everything in sight; while the Seniors were classic with Mario Brothers, Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach.  All were hailed by a cheering crowd as they sailed to the High School football field.

Before game time, the Freshman and Sophomores performed their lively skits, despite technical difficulties with their audio equipment. During halftime, the audio returned for the Juniors and Seniors, who each came on strong with their dance routines.Judging the culminating Homecoming activities, select members of the Rotary Club congratulated the hard work of all the classes and awarded First Place to the Seniors, Second to the Juniors, Third to the Sophomores, and Fourth to the Freshmen.

Homecoming football ended a very close game, as Eastport-South Manor edged a one-point win against the Sayville Varsity Flashes—final score 35-34.

A special nod goes to the Homecoming Activities organizers, especially Mike Huggins and Jason Ferremi, as well as each of the Class Advisors: Colleen Backer, Marie Sinclair (Freshman),Evan Hammer, Mike Pace (Sophomores); Katherine Van Dorn, Lynn Ann Perlin (Juniors); and Stephanie Adamson, Audra Feeley, Doug Shaw (Seniors)
