Robotics Team Finish as FIRST SemiFinalists

  • Congratulations to the Sayville Robotics Team, the Mechanical Animals, (comprised of both High School and Middle School students) for finishing as a semifinalist in the 2013 FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Regional Robotics Competition held at Hofstra University on April 4-6.

“The Mechanical Animals, in an alliance with Sag Harbor and Plainview-Old Bethpage clobbered the competition in the Quarter Final rounds,” Technology Department Chairperson Bryan Coon stated proudly, “and finished as semifinalist in the 2013 FIRST Regional Robotic Competition!”

The FIRST Robotics Competition is a national program that challenges teams of students and their mentors to design and build a 130 pound robot in a six-week timeframe using a standard “kit of parts” and a common set of rules. Teams build robots from the parts and enter them in a regional robotics competition. The Mechanical Animals entered the SBPLI (School-Business Partnerships of Long Island) Regional Robotics Competition held at Hofstra University.
