     Update from Dr. Stimmel

    December 30, 2021

    Dear Sayville Schools Community,

I hope that you and your family are enjoying a happy and healthy holiday and vacation.

The District has received information from the State and County that will have an impact on school operations starting in January.  This letter provides some initial information that has been given to us since December 23.  Additional guidance will be provided as it becomes available.

    • First, we anticipate that Sayville Schools will open as planned on Monday, January 3, 2022. There is no requirement to have students tested for COVID prior to entry into school.
    • The State and County plan on making COVID tests available for students. The District will work with our families to determine the best means to make tests available for parents/guardians who wish to use them with their children.
    • The State and County have informed us that Test to Stay (TTS) may be used with students under very limited conditions. We have been told that TTS does not apply to close contacts resulting from exposure that occurs during certain activities such as sports and lunch.
    • The State and County have informed us that quarantine lengths may be reduced for certain staff (we are awaiting clarification of this procedure). The required length of quarantine for students who have been exposed to COVID has not changed.

The Governor, State and County health officials continue to express the importance of keeping students healthy and safe while in school.  Every effort will be made to provide in-person instruction for our students. Remote instruction will be used on a limited basis and only when absolutely necessary.

The District will provide additional information as it becomes available.  This will include further details concerning the distribution of the optional home tests.

I hope that you and your families enjoy the remainder of the December recess and wish you a Healthy and Happy New Year.

    Sincerely,

    Dr. Stimmel
