Matt Iovino Scholar Athlete
For a second time this season, Sayville has a Capital One/News12 Long Island Scholar Athlete. Matt Iovino was recognized in December by Capital One and News12 Long. A video about Matt aired on News12 (see link).
Coach Rob Hoss nominated Matt Iovino, an All-Division Lineman and State Champion, for this award based upon his athleticism, scholarship, and musical versatility. In addition to his athletic prowess, Matt is academically accomplished, has an unweighted average of 94, scored 2130 on the SATs and achieved a perfect score in the math section. As a multitalented musician, Matt sings, plays ukulele, piano, guitar, cello, clarinet, qualified two times for All-State in voice and composition, and has appeared in school musicals since Middle School. When he graduates, Matt hopes to pursue his studies in Chemical Engineering at either MIT or Yale.
News 12, in conjunction with Capital One Bank, recognizes students from Long Island as Capital One/News12 Scholar Athletes in weekly broadcasts. “The winners are versatile young people who are busy with full schedules doing superior work, setting examples and setting lofty goals. We believe that winning a News 12 Long Island Scholar Athlete Award is the most prestigious honor that a high school senior can achieve, for it embraces the talent, hard work and dedication required to be considered the best on Long Island.”
Each student athlete is recognized for his or her exceptional achievement in the classroom and on the athletic field. The winner receives a certificate and a $1,000 scholarship from Capital One Bank. Students are recommended for this award by their head coach or school administrator
Congratulations to Matt Iovino for achieving this honor!
