Learning About Fire Safety

  • Sunrise Drive Elementary Kindergarten students won’t soon forget their visit from the Sayville Fire Department during Fire Prevention Month. To reinforce the children’s classroom lessons, the Sayville firefighters gave a presentation that began with questions and answers about fire prevention and safety. Their discussion was followed by various outside activities for the Kindergarten students.

The outdoor instruction gave each student a chance to sit on a firetruck and learn about all the firetruck equipment. They also explored the Safety House, where the firefighters taught the children more about what to do in case of a fire as well as how to prevent fires.  The kindergarteners even had the chance to hold and use the fire hose.  “The kids had a lot of fun and learned great safety tips,” Kindergarten teacher Ms. Andrea Nocito explained,  “Thank you, Sayville Fire Department!”
