Halloween Window Painting 2012

  • HALLOWEEN WINDOW PAINTING

    A REAL TREAT FOR SAYVILLE

For much more than thirty years, and perhaps longer than anyone seems to remember, the Sayville Kiwanis Club has been donating painting supplies to the art students in Sayville Middle School and High School for the annual Halloween Window Painting.

Each year prior to the event, the Sayville art department has encouraged students to submit their ideas. After reviewing the students' sketches, the faculty would select designs that would be most suitable for the storefronts.

This year, despite a rainy morning and lingering threats of showers, Sayville's participating merchants were visited on the designated painting day by a team of student artists and their teachers who transformed the ordinary glass into extraordinary Halloween visions.

Fortunately, the students did not have to brave too many mid-day raindrops to accomplish their tasks. While the clouds persisted to block the sun, the brilliant art students made use of color and design to render a spectrum of vivid oranges, reds, blues, greens, purples, with accents of blacks and whites.

As images of ghouls, goblins, witches, and whimsy appeared on the storefront windows in Downtown Sayville, the tradition lived on. While this long-standing partnership has had many benefits, the most obvious are:

    -        the students receive permission to paint their designs on public property,

    -        Downtown Sayville is decorated in the spirit of the bewitching season,

    -        And all Sayville gets to enjoy the artistic collaboration.

Thanks go to all the Sayville administrators, faculty, students, and Sayville Kiwanis Club for making this annual event possible. Enjoy the show!
