As a way to promote peace and nonviolence, the Lincoln Avenue Physical Education department ran a canned food drive for our students during the days leading up to Gandhi’s birthday.

The Lincoln elementary students were asked to bring in canned goods that would benefit the Sayville Food Pantry to their Physical Education periods during the first week in October. The staff and students also chose one day that week to dress up in white as a symbol of peace.

For some extra fun, there was a competition to see which class could bring in the most cans. The winning class would win an additional Physical Education period the following week.

"Mrs. Geiger’s 2nd-grade class was the winner with 222 cans," said Coach Elizabeth Bolger. "The school collectively donated 1,782 cans!"
