Jimmy Giattino

  • Congratulations to James Giattino for being named the Capital One /News12 Long Island Scholar Athlete.

News 12, in conjunction with Capital One Bank, recognizes students from Long Island as  Capital One/News12 Scholar Athletes. On a weekly basis, each student athlete is recognized for his or her exceptional achievement in the classroom and on the athletic field. The winner receives a certificate and a $1,000 scholarship from Capital One Bank. Students are recommended for this award by their head coach or school administrator.

Coach Rob Hoss nominated Jimmy Giattino for this award based on his physical performance, scholastic ability, and leadership. A two-way starter on both the basketball team and the football team, Jimmy played to win with Flashes Football in the 2011 Long Island Championship.

As well as an amazing athlete in football and basketball, Jimmy is a true scholar who is currently taking 8 AP courses, and maintains a weighted GPA of over 100 (unweighted this is more than an 95 average) throughout his High School career. Jimmy achieved a 2080 on the SAT and is a member of the National Honor Society. Next year,  Jimmy hopes to play football for either Tufts, Middlebury, or Amherst
