Souper Supper Fills Empty Bowls

  • From Soup de Jour

    to Soup Verschure:

A variety of donated and homemade soups served up a special evening fundraiser

For the price of a $10 ticket/donation, the Fourth Annual “Empty Bowls” soup/salad dinner fundraising event—in recognition of National Hunger Awareness Month (October)—fed more than just dinner guests. Thanks to the generosity of those who attended this year, Empty Bowls collected over $850 for the Greater Sayville Food Pantry.

Sponsored by the art department under the direction of John Verschure, Debbie Urso, and Evan Hammer and in conjunction with the Sayville School Employees Charitable Foundation, Empty Bowls was a feast of tossed greens and all-you-can-eat homemade soups generously supplied by Sayville faculty, students, families, and such local merchants as Crickets, Café Joelle, Tom’s Deli, Idle Hour Deli, Sayville Modern Diner, Sayville Pizza, Frizsche’s Bakery, O’Reilly’s Restaurant, and Captain Bills.

Of course, one of the most memorable features of the evening was the array of unique hand-crafted ceramic bowls and pottery (dishwasher and microwaveable safe) fired and glazed to perfection by the Sayville Art department faculty and students.

It was certainly a souper supper that satisfied every taste bud.
