Budget Advisory Committee

Purpose

The Budget Advisory Committee is a standing committee of the Board of Education. The purpose of this committee is to support the Budget Development Process through involvement of stakeholders and increasing transparency through an open discussion of district financial resources and constraints that need to be considered when putting the budget together.

Scope and Responsibilities

The Budget Advisory Committee serves in an advisory capacity, with the following scope and responsibilities:

  • Review budget development goals and priorities as determined by the Superintendent and/or the Board of Education including:
    • Strategic Goals of the District
    • New Programs or other initiatives
    • Staffing or Program Adjustments
    • Capital Projects
       
  • Review external factors impacting budget development such as: 
    • Property Tax Cap
    • Enrollment Trends
    • State Aid Changes
    • Retirement System Contributions
    • Health/General Insurance Rates
    •  
  • Establish and maintain periodic meetings to keep stakeholders up to date with changing budget issues and priorities so they might assist other stakeholders in understanding the budget development process.
     
  • Review Stakeholder concerns during the budget development process.
     

Facilitate communication and transparency by keeping stakeholders immersed in the budget development process.

Meeting Schedule

The committee will meet monthly at 3:00 PM, immediately prior to regularly scheduled Board of Education meetings, beginning in October and continuing through the budget vote in May.  Additional meetings may be scheduled as needed around the public budget workshops to increase communication with stakeholders.
