2024-2025 Important Budget Vote and Election Information
PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU FREQUENTLY VISIT THIS PAGE AS MORE INFORMATION WILL BE SHARED THROUGH THE WEBSITE!
There are three (3) open seats on the Board of Education. They are as follows:
· One (1) member of the Board of Education for a three (3) year term to succeed Carl Cangelosi, whose term expires on June 30, 2024; and
· One (1) member of the Board of Education for a three (3) year term to succeed Kelly Sack, whose term expires on June 30, 2024.
· One (1) member of the Board of Education for a three (3) year term to succeed John Verdone, whose term expires on June 30, 2024.
If you are interested in running for the Board of Education, please call the District Clerk at 631-244-6516 or email jvaccaro@sayvilleschools.org to request a nominating petition. Petitions are also available at the Administration Building (99 Greeley Avenue, Sayville, New York 11782) and can be picked up on Mondays-Fridays from the hours of 8AM-4PM.
Nominating petitions must be submitted to the District Clerk no later than Monday, April 22, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. in order to appear on the ballot for the May 21, 2024, election.
Petitions will be accepted in the following ways:

Qualifications for School Board
Qualifications for those persons interested in running for the School Board of the Sayville Union Free School District:
A Board member of the District must meet the following qualifications:
a) A citizen of the United States;
b) Eighteen years of age or older;
c) Able to read and write;
d) A legal resident of the District for a continuous and uninterrupted period of at least one year prior to the election;
e) Cannot be an employee of the District;
f) The only member of his or her family (that is, cannot be a member of the same household) on the District Board;
g) May not simultaneously hold another incompatible public office, including, but not limited to Superintendent, clerk, tax collector, treasurer or librarian, or an employee of the Board. In union free and central school districts, however, a Board member may be appointed clerk of the Board and of the District.
h) Must not have been removed from a school district office within one year preceding the date of appointment or election to the Board.
Voter's Information
In order to vote, you must be:
· Must be a U.S. Citizen
· 18 years of age or older
· Been a resident of the school district for at least 30 days prior to the vote
· Been registered to vote in the general elections or have been registered to vote in the school district

Absentee/Early Voting Information
You may use this application if you are a qualified voter who resides in the school district that provides for personal registration of voters. You may only apply for an absentee/early voting ballot on your own behalf. If you have any questions, please contact the District Clerk at 631-244-6516.

Per the District's legal notice and in accordance with Education Law § 2018-a, completed applications may not be received by the District Clerk earlier than Monday, April 22, 2024, and such applications must be received by the District Clerk at least seven (7) days before the election if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or the day before the election, if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter or to the agent named in the absentee ballot application. Absentee/early voting ballots must be received by the District Clerk not later than 5:00 p.m., prevailing time, on Monday, May 20, 2024.
