HS Cafeteria Renovations

From the Office of John J. Belmonte

Assistant Superintendent for Business

January 2010

Dear Sayville Community:

We are happy to report that, thanks to your past support in passing the Bond Referendum, the construction projects approved by the State Education Department have begun districtwide and are progressing nicely, both on schedule and under budget.

The High School Cafeteria Upgrades are among the designated projects for which work has already begun. After much planning by our District administrators, staff, and architects, these cafeteria improvements will eliminate the slow, single lunch-lines with a new Food Court setup as well as with the point-of-sale payment system, NutriKids, that is already a success at the elementary and Middle Schools. A full-time cook will also be on hand to prepare a wide selection of healthy, nutritious meals..

In addition, the outdoor area that opens from the current Cafeteria C will be redesigned as an outdoor eating courtyard, allowing our High School students time to refresh in the sunshine and fresh air during their lunch periods.

A Cafeteria Advisory Committee, comprised of Principal Hoffer, Assistant Superintendent John J. Belmonte, Sayville support staff, as well as select Site-Based Team parents and students, has convened to provide insight and feedback on these improvements.

During the renovation period, the District has arranged for most of the construction to take place after school hours, between 3 - 11 p.m.. However, there may be times when construction will take place during the school day. In those instances, the area(s) affected will be entirely closed off to ensure the safety of all.

Delivering a quality food program that aligns with New York State guidelines has always been foremost in our Food and Nutrition program, but once the upgrades are complete, these renovations will provide our High School students with a maximum of efficiency and an enjoyable environment for making healthy choices at lunch time.

Sincerely,

John J. Belmonte

Assistant Superintendent Sayville School District
