"The District remains in good fiscal health and will be able to withstand another year of limited or no new State Aid coupled with unprecedented increases in retirement and health costs. As you may be aware, many of these costs are out of the control of the school district.
However, thanks to the collaboration and
willingness of all of our staff members, we have been able to control
the growth of our salary costs over the last several years. In addition, this
school year we refinanced a portion of our existing debt service at lower
interest rates. We were able to save over $740,000 throughout the remaining
nine-year life of the debt.
These types of pro-active initiatives enable the Board of Education to continue to maintain the educationally opportunities we offer our students here at Sayville Schools. We understand how the community embraces, values and supports our school system. We are also very aware of the fiscal difficulties many families are facing and will continue to strive to provide fiscally responsible budgets in these difficult economic times.
We encourage you to get involved in the budget development process. This will help you gain a better understanding of the immediate and future challenges facing us. Your voice is important, and we look forward to your thoughts and ideas as we prepare for the 2013-14 school year.
Budget review and discussions are on the Board’s agenda at every board meeting throughout February, March, April and May. You can also find budget information posted on the Sayville web site under the Business Office. We look forward to your participation."
