Board of Education Begins Bond Review

Board of Education Begins Bond Review

The Five-Year District Facility-Assessment Report was presented to the Board of Education for review at the September 11, BOE Business Meeting.

During this meeting, the Board began the process of reviewing the District Facility-Assessment Report that evaluates the immediate and future needs of the buildings. In addition, the Board furthered their discussion about a report, prepared by the volunteers who comprised the Bond Committee, which contained suggested priorities that the Board may consider when determining what districtwide upgrades, improvements, and enhancements should be included in a Bond Referendum.

This is an ongoing process. Before the Board decides if it will put a Bond Referendum up for voter approval, the Board will continue to:

  • Receive input from the District Administrators, Architects, and Engineers;
  • Review and discuss items on the priority list;
  • Schedule more meetings and Superintendent Round Table forums to give the public an opportunity for discussion.

Once this process is complete, the Board of Education will decide and determine:

  • If there will be a Bond Referendum;
  • What upgrades, improvements, enhancements will be made with the Bond monies; and
  • Present the Bond Proposal Referendum to the public for voter approval.

Only if Sayville Board of Education receives voter approval will the approved list of Facility improvements go to the next step. The District Administrators, Architects and Engineers must prepare and submit projects and their specifications to the State Education Department in Albany from which the school district must receive approval to proceed with capital improvements. The time-frame for State approval may be six months to a year on each project.

Attached is the Powerpoint presentation from the Board meeting and  a copy of  District Facility Assessment Report  with the Bond Committee’s priority designations.
