Ms. DiMeola
On July 27th, Sayville Public Schools appointed Amy DiMeola, the new Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction.
Amy comes to the district from the North Shore Central School District in Sea Cliff where she was an administrator for the past nine years, most recently as the Director of Secondary Mathematics and Technology. In this role, Amy expanded the middle-level STEM program to include a wide variety of unique elective offerings and broadened the high school program to include dual-enrolled engineering courses with Stony Brook University. Her work with the math department focused on collaborating with teachers to cultivate and coordinate a learner-centered approach to instruction. Under her guidance, the department also developed an assessment practice that allows students to express their understanding using a variety of measures.
In 2022, Amy was selected from among educators across New York State to provide voice and expertise to the NYSED PLAN Pilot Project. Amy served on the Project's Assessment Technical Validity Workgroup, which provided NYSED with feedback and analysis for its goal to increase school district capacity for project-based learning and assessment. Amy took an active role in discussions related to the evolution of the assessment landscape in New York State.
Prior to serving as a school administrator, Amy was a Math teacher at Great Neck North High School for eight years. She entered the profession after working for the International Rescue Committee in New York City, where she developed an after-school support program for recently resettled refugee youth and also served in the Human Resources department of the organization's headquarters office.
Amy earned her BS from Cornell University in Policy Analysis and Management, a master's degree in Secondary Mathematics Education from Columbia University, and an advanced certificate in School Building and School District Leadership from the College of St. Rose.
As Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, Amy will collaborate with teachers to develop and implement district-wide curriculum in all grade levels and disciplines from Pre-K-12th grade. She will oversee the coordination of state and local testing, analyze and report on student outcomes, and supervise all instructional programs.
Amy's belief that all children deserve a rigorous and engaging education will guide her in supporting high quality programming for all students in the Sayville community.
