As part of the Sayville S.T.R.I.D.E.S. program, an interactive ZOOM workshop will be held for the entire Sayville School District and Sayville Community on the topic of “Current Drug Trends.” This workshop is scheduled for Wednesday, November 4th at 7:00 p.m. Guest moderator David Hymowitz, licensed social worker who has provided workshops for Sayville teachers and parents, will field questions and comments on the topic with ZOOM participants.
Please sign up if you plan on participating in the ZOOM workshop—see Google forms https://forms.gle/nvRKwSHtwZ8cUx686—so the District will know how many people to expect. The Zoom link for the actual meeting will be disseminated via Messenger at a later date.
Also during this workshop there will be opportunities to discuss or ask follow-up questions regarding the film: The First Day Film: A Focus on the Beginning, which had been made available to students, teachers, and parents thanks to the Great South Bay Coalition. This poignant film features former NBA star Chris Herren sharing with students the stressors, peer pressure, and anxieties that trigger the early onset of substance use—“the first day, not the worst day.” His mission is to bring greater awareness to the ever-evolving challenges facing young people and to help them avoid the awful road to drug use.
If you need further information about the November 4th workshop or the film referenced above, please contact Mrs. Jillian Makris, Director of Student Services.
