¡Feliz Año Nuevo!

January 8, 2024

Happy New Year from Señora Petrone’s Spanish classes!

After students shared with amigos their own family traditions of ringing in the New Year, they learned the Spanish tradition of eating 12 grapes at the turn of the year, one for each stroke of the bell at midnight. It is believed that if one manages to eat 12 grapes within the 12 bells, it will bring happiness and good luck to the New Year.

Students recreated the fun in class by eating 12 marshmallows instead. Each marshmallow represented a wish they had for themselves for the upcoming year. Students worked in groups and shared their wishes/resolutions for the New Year with each other en español.
