Last week, Sunrise Drive kicked off their S.T.R.I.D.E.S. wellness program with some exciting activities!

During their lunch periods, students watched a recording of Sunrise Drive Principal Dr. Foy reading the story “One” by Kathryn Otoshi to Pre-K students. This special book was chosen because it highlights that when one person stands up against bullying, it can give others the courage to do the same.

The next day, high school and fifth grade Peer Leaders facilitated further discussions in the cafeteria about how, when we help others, it will often also boost our own self-esteem. Students were invited to write or draw on a bandaid, something they could do or say to “fix a broken heart” or help another person when they are having a difficult time.

About S.T.R.I.D.E.S.

  • The importance of cultivating positive and strong relationships

  • Developing healthy coping skills to deal with life and life’s challenges

  • Kindness and compassion for others

Working towards this wellness goal, there are seven attributes that students  learn about monthly.  The attributes are: Self-Esteem, Trust, Resilience, Independence, Diversity, Empathy, and Strength (STRIDES).
