November 6, 2023
Congratulations to Sayville’s Varsity Cheerleading Team for winning the first ever Game Day County Championship and finishing in third place at the New York State Championship!
On Sunday, October 29, the team won the Class B Suffolk County Championship, earning the opportunity to represent Section XI at the New York State Championship.
On the weekend of November 3, Sayville competed at the New York State Championship in Binghamton, N.Y. . The team hit two back-to-back routines, with zero deductions, earning a spot in the finals.
The team is led by senior captains Sophia Furno, Ava Rueb, and Corinne Schick and coached by Kaytie Ferremi. Victoria Herrman, who coaches Sayville’s JV team, also accompanied the team to Counties and States.
Senior Captain Ava Rueb designed the team's new game day uniforms using experience she gained from a fashion course at the High School. The company Varsity Fashion brought Ava’s designs to life.
Senior Emma Bianco was nominated by her coaches for the NYS Sportsmanship Award. This award is given to an athlete who displays the leadership and top qualities of a good teammate.
Next up, the team will be competing at the Empire Regional in December to earn a bid to attend the National High School Cheerleading Championship in Walt Disney World this upcoming February.
